Ten of the best things to do and see, in Yorkshire and the Dales. This is just the beginning of a list of worthwhile places to visit in Yorkshire and The Dales …
1: Bolton Abbey
Being honest? I’d rather be somewhere else. Usually. But for reasons that you need not share.
This is not the Venice of the North, as some Yorkshire folk bloatedly state. But it is one of the best towns in the North of England, which doesn’t even disappoint in the rain.
3: Heptonstall (& Hebden Bridge)
If you want to get a feel for Bronte’s Yorkshire, you’d be better off here, at Heptonstall.
York Minster and Roman Walls are icing on a very old and worthy cake.
Small but lovely, and at the heart of some wonderful walking country.
More than just a Market Day delight and possessor of one of the best chip shops in the North..
Two waterfalls and some great walking country.
Lives in the shadow of Bolton Abbey, but has standalone beauty, great ice cream, and lots to explore along the riverside paths and the road to Appletreewick (including the pubs).
A bit too twee at peak season, but extra-special when there’s nobody there…
Hawes is the Keswick of the Dales – minus the rampant commercialism – so don’t miss it. Its also a great base from which to discover the delights of Wensleydale
