Wednesday Morning Magic

Something strange is afoot on Wednesday mornings throughout the Summer months.
From Preston to Blackburn, then on to Whalley, Clitheroe, Settle and through to Carlisle, people are drawn to a weekly spectacle as if moved my strange magic or a magnetic spell.
Cars pull over.
Playground footie games pause.
Roadworks stop (do some ever start?)
And its quite bizarre to see so many folk peering up from beneath viaducts, over bridges, walls and fences, and peeping through curtains and wound-down car windows.
With the clarion of the toot-toot whistle and varying shades of smoke signal, the imminent arrival of Wednesday’s favourite choo-woo  child is announced to children of all ages – The Fellsman’s coming through! (…only they’ve changed the day to a Tuesday, which doesn’t have the same ring to it!)
