Wonderful sights often require effort on the viewer’s part – sometimes a lot, at other times not so much – and one of the most spectacular sights in Britain is a perfect sunrise over the Holy Island that is Lindisfarne.
In summer, this might require some serious sleep deprivation (and a room at a local inn) and the chances of you being greeted by a sunrise such as this are pretty slim. But occasionally fortune favours the sleepy-eyed brave. And if you don’t at least try, it most certainly cannot, because North Eastern light only catches a full fire at dawn.
Even if the sun doesn’t set fire to a powder keg sky and shine on your dawn parade, just watching any kind of light rise above the horizon in such a setting – in relative solitude and silence – is reward enough for some of us.
