Downham

Downham.
Downham.

There’s a subtle perfection about Downham, and throughout the stunning May of 2018 I’ve intended merely to pass through (on my way to Bolton-by-Bowland or the Trough), only to get hijacked by seasonal subtleties of light and texture that won’t let me go until I’ve done it some kind of justice.

Downham, Lancashire, under a soaking blue sky.

On sunny summer days, pack your folding chairs and the kids into the car (not necessarily in that order), and bring some healthy seed-feed for the army of ducks, who await your arrival with bated beak.

Alternatively, bring a hot flask in the Winter months and make a showing before the sun does, as it’s quite a spectacle watching it creep up over Pendle Hill’s shoulder on a misty frosty morn.
