Lancashire Travel Guide

Ten of the best things to see and do in Lancashire
1: Clitheroe

travel guide clitheroe 1

Best town in Lancashire by a route march. Good café’s, eateries, pubs, a baby castle and generally a great market town atmosphere.

2: Sunrise over Downham

Downham is impressive at any time of day or year, but sunrise is something to treasure.

3: Blackpool at Sunset

There are few sights as glorious as a fiery sunset, and Blackpool has some of the best. Avoid the weekend frenzy and focus on nature’s illuminations.

4: Pendle Hill

A pack lunch from the top of Pendle Hill. Take the steep route for a good heart-and-lungs workout.

5: Whalley

Small and perfectly formed town and a great location for a summer picnic.

6: Lytham del Mar

As classy as Blackpool isn’t, Lytham’s mews houses are miles apart from that tacky St. Ann’s sh*te and worthy of Chelsea.

7: Pendle Witch Hopper Bus Ride number 7 (to make things as confusing as possible, it becomes the 7s or 72 on Summer Sundays and Bank Holidays)

Setting out from Clitheroe, a quick tour of Pendle for the price of a bus ticket. Waddington, West Bradford, Downham, Barley, Roughlee and Barrowford are part of this rtoute – each of them are worth a visti.
And from Barley there’s some good walking to be had.
Get a bus timetable for the bus back again.

8: Slaidburn

For some this place is a close relative of Royston Vasey, but for me this out-on-a-limb hamlet is full of atmosphere. Just make sure you escape before nightfall…

9: Stonyhurst College & The Hodder

10: Lancaster & Bowland

Or, more specifically, the drive through Bowland to Lancaster.
