If you go to Bolton Abbey on Boxing Day or other major Bank Holiday, its like a Grand Prix circuit for posh dogs and their well-heeled walkers, and on glorious summer days you have to claim your picnic spot early.
But just because Bolton Abbey is a victim of its own success doesn’t make it any less valuable or spectacular a venture, and you fully appreciate its worth when visiting other estates plastered with ‘Private Land‘ notices.
Credit where it is due: this estate is beautiful, well-kept, and has been made accessible to all for the price of a day on the car park.
Parking is free in the Winter months (outside of major holidays), and you won’t pay a penny to walk the walk if you arrive by bus.
